A glimpse into the future of heavy transport, except that it’s here today. @volvotrucks launched and delivered the first electric truck in South Africa today. It was a fascinating look into the world of heavy duty trucks and at the holistic approach to the environment and carbon emissions that are created by heavy transport that is so essential in this country. A heavy truck can emit 1 ton of CO2 daily while travelling long distance. Although the truck delivered today has a range of approximately 300km on a charge, careful planning and logistics can make this work for short and medium distance transport. Long distance will still use diesel engines but with constant improvements and innovations added.
